Hyderabad: Based on his ranking, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) selected the Hyderabad-based Table Tennis player Balusuri Varun Shankar for the Tunisia Youth Contender international tournament to be held this week.

Varun, a trainee of Somnath Ghosh MLR UTT Academy, will play for India in the Under-19 category. Varun is the third player trained by Somnath, after Sreeja and Snehit, to get an opportunity to represent the country in an international tournament. Varun is a bronze medal winner at the National championships held in Indore in March this year.

“This being my first international appearance, I am very happy. Wearing the country’s jersey is a moment of pride for any player,” Varun, a journalism student of St Joseph’s Degree and PG College, said.
