The longest-running conflict in US history, the war in Afghanistan has led to the deaths of nearly 2,400 American troops, and cost the country around $2 trillion.
Removing all of the troops and their equipment in the next three weeks — along with coalition partners who can't get out on their own — would be difficult logistically.
Afghanistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Adela Raz also expressed gratitude to India for providing the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to her country.

The blasts came in the morning rush hour. The first explosion occurred roughly at 8:00 a.m. local time while the second blast came 15 minutes later, Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz said.
"It is an interesting story and I watched a BBC documentary as part of preparation for my role. My character is an Afghan leader who has become an extremist," Rahul told.
"The car bomb was detonated outside the central police station of Daman district at around 10.30 a.m. Initial information found 24 people, including 13 civilians were wounded by the explosion," a provincial police spokesman told Xinhua news agency.
This did not go well with Australia, which in a sharp rebuke, said that the Chinese government should be totally ashamed of the 'truly offensive' post, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
