The India Meteorological Department has forecast below-normal rainfall across the country in July as El Niño conditions strengthen. The weak monsoon could affect Kharif crops, water resources and hydropower generation, while above-normal temperatures are expected in most regions of India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast below normal rainfall across major parts of India, including Kerala, in 2026 due to the El Niño effect. IMD Director Neetha K Gopal noted that while Kerala may see some good showers around June 10, overall rainfall for June and the monsoon season will be deficient.
