Telangana police have ranked last among States in training officers on the new criminal laws, with 47.76 percent yet to undergo training. Ministry of Home Affairs data showed only 52.23 percent of the State’s 53,115 police officers were trained.
Chidambaram, who served as the Finance Minister in UPA I and UPA II regimes, said that the three criminal laws which came into force from July 1 were drafted by non-professional people, who were part-time members of a committee.
The former home minister emphasized the need for additional amendments to align the three laws with the Constitution and modern principles of criminal jurisprudence in the future.
