Board Exams for Class 10th have been cancelled and 12th exams have been postponed, said the Union Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

"Results of Class 10th will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Class 12th exams will be held later, the situation will be reviewed on 1st June by the Board," it added.

Singh has written to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', pointing to the prevailing situation.

Class 10 and 12 exams are set to begin from May 4 amid demand by some leaders, that they be cancelled amid an alarming rise in the COVID-19 cases across the country.

The Central Board of Secondary Education can explore other methods, including online exams and promoting students on the basis of internal assessments, he said.

She said with over one lakh cases of COVID-19 being reported across the country, lakhs of children and parents have expressed fear and apprehension about assembling at exam centres

According to the revised date sheet for CBSE board exams 2021, the Class 10 exams would be held between May 4 and June 7.

Schools across the country were closed in March last year to contain the spread of COVID-19 ahead of a nationwide lockdown.

As per the datesheet, the exams for class 10 will conclude on June 7, while those for class 12 will conclude on June 10.

The Education Minister has already clarified that there will be no change in the syllabus for medical entrance exam NEET or engineering entrance exam JEE-Main next year.

The Board will conduct practical exams for Class 12th from January 1 till February 8 as per tentative dates.
