Bajaj Auto was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising nearly 2 per cent, followed by Tech Mahindra, NTPC, IndusInd Bank, PowerGrid, M&M and HCL Tech.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 0.03 per cent to USD 74.55 per barrel.

The retail prices of both petrol and diesel rose by a sharp 35 paise per litre on Saturday to touch new high of Rs 98.11 and Rs 88.65 per litre respectively in Delhi.

On Friday, the oil marketing companies (OMCs) raised the price of petrol and diesel between 23-30 paisa per litre across the four metros.

IndusInd Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding 2.91 per cent, followed by Dr Reddy's, NTPC, Maruti, Bajaj Auto, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel and HDFC.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.01 per cent to 90.53.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.88 per cent to USD 73.33 per barrel.

Reliance Industries was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising around 1.5 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finance, ONGC, Infosys, PowerGrid, L&T and IndusInd Bank.
