BIS raided warehouses linked to Flipkart, E-Kart, and Meesho in Andhra Pradesh, seizing uncertified and unsafe products. These goods violated BIS safety norms and the BIS Act. Authorities warn of health risks and legal penalties for such violations
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad Branch Office, conducted a search-and-seizure operation on Monday at a manufacturing unit located in TSIIC Pashamylaram
The BIS officials seized hand blenders which do not have BIS certification, which is meant to protect the users. The local manufacturers are manufactuirng the hand blender and selling them directly whithout the mandatory BIS certification
During the raid, a total of 2,783 consumer goods, including 150 Smart watches, 15 electric water heaters, 30 CCTV cameras, 16 domestic electric food mixers, 10 domestic pressure cookers, 1937 stainless steel water bottles, 326 wireless earbuds, 170 mobile chargers, 90 electric and non-electric yoys, etc were found stored and offered for sale without the mandatory BIS Certification
Referring to the non-uniform standards in different institutions and PSUs, the Union Minister said that efforts should be made to merge different standards under one standard.
