The Centre introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to replace an ordinance increasing the Supreme Court's sanctioned judge strength from 34 to 38. The government said the move would help reduce case pendency and enable regular constitution of larger constitutional benches

The Supreme Court, under CJI Surya Kant, will launch “Samadhan Samaroh” to promote mediation-based settlement of pending cases. The initiative aims to reduce backlog by resolving over 45,000 identified cases through amicable dispute resolution mechanisms like mediation and Lok Adalats
