The government in June 2017 removed retail and wholesale traders from the MSME category forcing the players either borrow at a higher rate or from informal financial sources.
The traders' body has been raising concerns for some time now over the arbitrariness of the tax regime. It has also called for a traders' strike on February 26.
"It is a case of daylight robbery of e-commerce entities in India and, therefore, demands immediate action against the erring e-commerce portals and online mechanism providers," CAIT stated.
In a communication sent to Minister for Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, CAIT has demanded that the government should immediately restrict WhatsApp from implementing the new policy or put a ban on WhatsApp and its parent company Facebook.
It urged the Prime Minister that an e-commerce policy should be announced immediately with an explicit provision of an empowered regulatory authority to monitor the sector's business in India.
