A gunfight broke out in the downtown Khanyar area of Srinagar as security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) following intelligence reports regarding the presence of terrorists.
The incident occurred in the Khaigam area of the central Kashmir district. The injured Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Bijapur additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakanth Governa told the media that a team of CPRF 153 Bn of Chinnagelur camp was engaged in demining duty. The team detected an IED and was defusing it during which it exploded.
ED officials from New Delhi have arrived in the city and are conducting searches at 16 locations connected to the Revenue Minister and other individuals. Reports indicate that 16 teams are simultaneously carrying out searches at these various sites associated with the Minister.
CPI (Maoist) militia deputy commander Karam Sammaiah, was arrested during vehicle inspections by Cherla police, special party and CRPF 141 Bn personnel.
