Maradona passed away on Wednesday of a heart attack at the age of 60. He had been hospitalised at the start of November, days after celebrating his birthday, Goal.com reported.
"A moment of reflection to remember the great Diego Maradona," Liverpool tweeted. "As a great is remembered," wrote Manchester City, observing a minute's silence along with Olympiacos players ahead of the clash.
I have lost a dear friend, and the world has lost a legend," Pele wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of Maradona hoisting the World Cup trophy in 1986
Maradona did not speak to the crowd of journalists and chanting fans gathered outside in masks as he left the Olivos clinic in Buenos Aires by ambulance shortly after his doctor Leopoldo Luque told reporters he could go home.
"This chronic subdural hematoma was successfully evacuated. Diego tolerated the surgery very well. He is awake. Everything is fine," CNN quoted Luque as saying.
