Renowned filmmaker Ranjith was arrested in Kochi following a sexual assault complaint by a young actress working on his film. The arrest, carried out by a special police squad, comes after the actress submitted a confidential statement at a Women’s Police Station.

The actress had accused several male actors, including CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh, of sexual abuse, a few years ago.

Ranjith, in his bail plea, dismissed all the allegations against him and said he was being "implicated" after 15 years.
