India’s first Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University has evolved from the Kothagudem School of Mines, which traces its origins to Osmania University’s 1956 Mining Engineering Department. While new courses are planned, student groups say faculty shortages and infrastructural gaps remain unaddressed
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University in Kothagudem after a delay of over three hours. Thousands of students were mobilised by the district administration to fill seats, with many waiting for more than seven hours and receiving minimal refreshments.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced that the newly sanctioned Dr. Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University in Kothagudem will be inaugurated in August. The university, planned during the Telangana Statehood movement, will be developed to world-class standards on a 300-acre site.
