The West Bengal forest department has begun restoring 1,600 hectares of illegally encroached mangrove forest in the Sundarbans by demolishing unauthorised fisheries and replanting saplings. Authorities are also investigating an alleged nexus involving fish farm owners, politicians and corrupt officials
He stated that various schemes like Haritha Haram to increase green cover and also ban on use of low-grade plastic, were being strictly enforced in the State.
