KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal steadied India after Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out following a mix-up, taking the visitors to 101 for one at lunch on Day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
India won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle. Devdutt Padikkal and Kuldeep Yadav were included in India's XI, while Sri Lanka handed a Test debut to Keshara Nuwantha.
On Sunday, Root played a 186-run knock, with the help of 18 boundaries, during England's first innings in the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium.
