Officials said the searches were conducted to examine the losses shown in their statements submitted to the department.

The searches were carried out on March 4 at 27 premises in Chennai, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Thrissur, Nellore, Jaipur and Indore.

He alleged that the Central government makes the Income Tax Department dance to its tunes.

They said the searches are part of a tax evasion probe and conducted at about 20 locations in Mumbai and Pune.
