At least 14 people were killed and 33 injured after a passenger bus overturned in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. Rescue operations are underway, with authorities attributing the accident to possible overspeeding, overloading and poor road conditions.

Authorities confirmed the passenger bus lost control near Asser in Doda district, plunging into a steep gorge.

On August 5, 2019, the Centre revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.
