The Supreme Court has given the Telangana government six weeks to submit a restoration plan for the deforested Kancha Gachibowli area in Hyderabad, stressing that development must be balanced with environmental conservation and warning against unchecked destruction of forests.
The Supreme Court adjourned the Kancha Gachibowli forest case to August 13, criticising Telangana for allegedly clearing forest land overnight. The CJI warned that bulldozing forests under the pretext of development cannot be justified and officials could face jail.
Senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao said the apex court's observations, especially its censure over the use of bulldozers during holidays, exposed the deliberate and dangerous environmental destruction by the Revanth Reddy government.
