Imams and Muezzins across Telangana are facing uncertainty ahead of Ramzan due to delayed honorarium payments by the Wakf Board. With dues cleared only till November and thousands of applications pending, religious functionaries have urged immediate intervention by the government.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had fixed honorarium of Rs. 5000 to the Imam (one who leads the prayers) and Muezzin (the one who give call for prayer), in the State. After scrutinizing the applications, the State government through TS Wakf Board pays the honorarium to them. The Congress party during its election campaign assured to hike the amount.
