Desilting of nalas and drains is progressing at a snail’s pace. Huge piles of mud remain accumulated on main roads, along with uncovered manholes, open craters filled with pebbles, and potholes that remain unfilled — all of which are likely to become major problem areas once the rains begin to lash the city
During the review meeting, GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar said that desilting works on 256 drains with an estimated cost of Rs 44.45 crores were completed.
Officials were also asked to focus more on improving sanitisation in the city, for which zonal commissioners would have to inspect their zones both in the mornings and evenings.
