Gitanjali Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, said his detention under the NSA reflects the state of democracy in the country. She alleged procedural lapses, delays by the government and said the case against him has no merit

The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned to October 15 the hearing on a plea by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, challenging his detention under the National Security Act and seeking his immediate release, citing paucity of time.

Shukla, 35, is said to be associated with the ruling BJP and the party's local MLA.

The petition, filed through Farasat, alleged that for this criticism Erendro has spent some days in custody pursuant to criminal cases initiated against him.

The observations assume significance in view the recent decision of the Uttar Pradesh administration to prosecute people under the National Security Act.

"The state government has instructed police to act tough against people who are black-marketing Covid-19 medicines," said a government spokesman.

Khan had hit the headlines after the 2017 tragedy at Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, in which several children died due to a lack of oxygen cylinders.
