The security personnel were ambushed by naxals when they were out on a combing operation in a forest along the border of the Bijapur and Sukma districts of the state.
Twenty two security personnel were killed and 31 others injured in the gunfight with Naxals between Jonaguda and Tekalguda villages along the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts on Saturday.
"70 of our officials were involved. The operation lasted for 48 hours and was completed. One police personnel suffered a gunshot injury and was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment," the Home Minister said.

According to the police's statement, 11 male and two female Naxals surrendered in front of Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava yesterday.
The incident took place in Tekanar village on Friday evening when the victim, identified as Jairam Usendi (35), had gone to the local market along with his brother Peela Das Usendi.
