Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan flagged off two trained Kumki elephants, Jayant and Abhimanyu, to Parvathipuram-Manyam district to help manage rising human-elephant conflict, protect farmers' crops and strengthen wildlife conservation efforts along the Odisha border.
According to Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), the highest temperature of this summer season so far was recorded at 47.6 degrees Celsius in Piduguralla of Palnadu district, while temperatures crossed 45 degrees Celsius in 11 districts
The agency has identified nine mandals in Vizianagaram district, followed by Srikakulam and East Godavari (eight each) and Parvathipuram Manyam (10), among others.
According to officials, the animal was sighted in Mirthivalasa of Balijipeta mandal in the district and had travelled approximately 40 kms during the previous night.
