A 64-year-old farmer from Bonkur village died of a heart attack at a maize procurement centre in Jogulamba Gadwal district while completing online formalities. BRS leader KT Rama Rao blamed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Congress government for lapses in procurement, demanding Rs 25 lakh compensation for the family.
As Telangana’s cotton marketing season nears, farmers are preparing for a rush at procurement centres due to mandi prices falling well below the MSP. With over 6 lakh farmers affected, the state has expanded procurement facilities and introduced digital tools like the Kapas Kisan App to manage the surge. However, concerns persist over payment delays, quality rejections, and private traders exploiting long queues.
He added that the cotton was grown in an area of 7,58,560 acres in the combined Warangal district and they were expecting 6,25,285 metric tonnes (MT) of cotton arrivals.
