Hyderabad witnessed grand celebrations on Thursday to mark the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. A large procession organised by the Sri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maratha Navyuvak Mandal began at Puranapul Darwaza and culminated at Salarjung Bridge, passing through key areas of the old city.
The procession will begin from Puranapul Darwaza and culminate at the Shivaji Statue at Imliban Park, Darulshifa Bridge. Around 20,000 people are expected to participate in the procession
Historians point out the cities in those days needed walls to protect its citizens. Hence the long wall with 13 gates and windows was constructed for Hyderabad.
