President Droupadi Murmu conferred 65 Padma awards at the second civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, honouring eminent personalities across diverse fields. Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, cricketer Rohit Sharma, playback singer Alka Yagnik, and actor Satish Shah (posthumously) were among the recipients.
President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Padma Awards 2026 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II on June 23 at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. Among the 65 awardees are former Union Minister Shibu Soren (posthumous), tennis star Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, and singer Alka Yagnik.
JMM founder and former chief minister Shibu Soren’s last rites will be held today in Nemra village. Top national leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Kharge, are expected to attend the funeral.
BRS leaders K. Chandrashekhar Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, and T. Harish Rao paid tributes to late JMM founder Shibu Soren, recalling his pivotal support for the Telangana movement. They called his death a major loss to India’s federal and tribal causes.
Veteran Jharkhand leader Shibu Soren, JMM founder and three-time Chief Minister, died at 81 in Delhi after a prolonged illness. A key figure in the Jharkhand statehood movement, he was popularly known as Guruji and served in Parliament multiple times.
