Himachal Pradesh’s snow leopard population has risen to 83 from 51 in 2021, according to a new survey by the Wildlife Wing and NCF. The highest densities were found in Spiti and Pin valleys, with rare species also documented.
As many as 718 snow leopards were reported as part of the first-ever scientific exercise that was carried out by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
A global team of scientists analysed almost 300 biodiversity hotspots -- places with exceptionally high numbers of animal and plant species -- on land and at sea.
