The NHAI has suspended toll collection on a 28.71-km stretch of the Amritsar–Jamnagar Expressway due to repair work. The move offers relief to commuters while roadwork progresses on this critical Bharatmala corridor linking northern states to western ports.
There were reports that a satellite-based tolling system would be launched from May 1, 2025, and will replace the existing FASTag-based toll collection system. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued clarification
National Highway Authority of India in a statement said toll collection across the country through FASTag touched Rs 103.54 crore, with 63.09 lakh transactions on July 1, 2021.
The government said that it did not make FASTag mandatory overnight and had given incentives, including a 10 to 25 per cent cashback to users from 2016 to 2020.
While at many places, farmers took over toll plazas not allowing authorities to collect fees from commuters, at other places toll employees themselves halted the process in view of the protest
