The Supreme Court on Monday sought Delhi Police’s response on bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, and others in the UAPA case related to the February 2020 Delhi riots, posting the matter for October 7

The Supreme Court will hear bail pleas of Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid, Meeran Haider, and Gulfisha Fatima in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, challenging Delhi High Court’s rejection under UAPA.

A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Dipankar Datta adjourned the hearing citing paucity of time and posted the matter to be heard on November 1.

Besides this, the judge said that it is grossly unfair and unjustified that the reporting of the exact contents of the charge-sheet are reported in the media before cognizance is taken.

Kumar and others, including former JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, were accused of raising anti-India slogans.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat directed the Jail Superintendent to ensure that the accused was allowed to step out of his jail as per the rules and to ensure that the court did not receive any such complaints in future
