The Union Law Ministry appointed five judges to the Supreme Court on Monday. The newly elevated judges include Chief Justices from the Bombay, Punjab and Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir High Courts, along with Justice Venkita Subramani Mohana
The Union Law Ministry has notified the Women’s Reservation Act, 2023, which provides a 33 per cent quota for women in legislatures, effective from April 16, 2026. Parliament had passed the landmark Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in September 2023, but its implementation is tied to the completion of the delimitation exercise after the 2027 Census.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Justice in the Union law ministry, their appointment as permanent judges will come into effect the day they assume charge of their respective offices.
