Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday resigned from the post.Rupani, who made the announcement while talking to reporters, did not reveal what prompted him to step down. Legislative Assembly elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state are due next year.

On Sunday, Rupani, 64, fainted on stage while addressing a rally in Vadodara for the upcoming civic polls in the state, following which he was flown to Ahmedabad.
The state government has applied for a patent to change the nomenclature of dragon fruit, which is largely grown in Kutch, Navsari and different parts of Saurashtra, to 'Kamalam', Rupani told reporters on Tuesday.
Fifteen other passengers from the the same flight from UK had also tested positive and the Gujarat government is awaiting the results of tests from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune.
