Hyderabad: Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar on Saturday demanded that the Centre take up delimitation exercise in the two Telugu States just as it is doing in the case of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the media here on Friday, Vinod Kumar said as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, there is a need to increase the Assembly seats in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He demanded that the Union government increase Assembly seats in Telangana from 119 to 153.
When both the Telugu States’ Chief Ministers appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the Assembly seats, the latter had said there was no provision to revise the seats till 2026, citing amendments in the Constitution, Vinod Kumar informed.
The vice-chairman wondered under which provisions the Union government is planning to increase the Assembly seats in J&K now. “What happened to the slogan of ‘one country, one law’? There cannot be one law for Kashmir and another for the rest of the country,” he said.
The Union government is adopting double standards on increasing seats in the two Telugu States. The all-party meeting of J&K leaders convened by the BJP-led Union government exposes its tactics as it is increasing the Assembly seats in J&K with an eye on political gains, he charged.
