Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force (Charminar) team, along with Kalapattar police, seized 480 bobbins of banned Chinese synthetic nylon glass-coated manja worth about Rs 7.50 lakh from a businessman on Tuesday.
The suspect, Abhishek Singh, a resident of Puranapul, was apprehended while allegedly collecting 10 cartons of the banned manja. “Singh runs a kite shop in the Mangalhat area and had procured the stock from a person identified as Mohsin of Jaipur, Rajasthan, through private transport. He was allegedly stocking and selling the prohibited manja to retail shop owners and customers in Hyderabad at higher prices ahead of the Sankranti festival,” said the police.
Two mobile phones were also seized from him. Police said the use of nylon and glass-coated manja poses a serious threat to birds, animals and humans and violates environmental regulations.
