Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has stated that recent developments before the Telangana High Court have reinforced its long-standing concerns regarding the functioning of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
TCA General Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy said that petitions reportedly filed by certain HCA-affiliated clubs seeking the removal of supervisory powers vested in a retired judge appointed by the High Court raise serious questions about transparency and accountability within the association.
According to the TCA, petitions have been filed by individuals associated with Khalsa Cricket Club, Zinda Tilismath, Sagar Cricket Club, and other affiliated entities. The association questioned why there is such urgency to remove independent judicial oversight if HCA’s functioning is fully transparent and compliant.
“The High Court entrusted supervisory powers to a retired judge in view of concerns relating to governance, financial management, and administrative functioning. If everything is above board, why is independent oversight being opposed?” Guruva Reddy asked.
The TCA reiterated that it has consistently raised concerns regarding alleged financial irregularities, nepotism, lack of transparency, and bias in player selection processes. It noted that complaints relating to Under-14, Under-16, and women cricketers have been lodged with law-enforcement authorities, while several affected individuals have independently approached the courts.
The TCA also pointed out that investigations by the CID into alleged financial and administrative irregularities, club-related matters, and issues concerning government-allotted land are underway. The association further recalled that the Telangana Lokayukta directed the CB-CID to conduct a time-bound inquiry and submit a report within four weeks.
Given the growing concerns surrounding HCA’s administration, the TCA has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to immediately place the present HCA administration under suspended animation and appoint an independent committee comprising credible former cricketers and experienced administrators to manage the association temporarily.
