Amaravati: The Telugu Desam Party will boycott the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad elections to be held shortly.

TDP national president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the elections to local bodies in Andhra Pradesh had become undemocratic and wondered how the ministers could mention the Parishad elections dates before hand.

Talking to media persons after the TDP polit bureau meeting at Mangalagiri party office here on Friday, he took exception to the new State Election Commissioner Neelam Sahni issuing notification for the Parishat elections as soon as she took charge. He alleged that the SEC was reduced to a rubber stamp in Parishat polls. While only two per cent of the MPTC elections were unanimous in 2014, they increased to 24 per cent in the fresh polls, he pointed out.

Similarly, one per cent the ZPTC elections were declared unanimous in 2014 but now their per centage increased to 19, he said, alleging that the ruling YSR Congress Party muscle power and illegal activity resulted in their rise.

Chandrababu said that the SEC after promising to take the opinion of all parties on the elections, had issued the poll notification and alleged that the elections were being held against the spirit of the Constitution.

He did not believe that the elections would be free and fair and under such a situation had to take a stern decision, he explained.
