Hyderabad: Not just students, but teachers too are on the warpath with the State government over the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The teaching community has been demanding that the Congress government honour its election promise of scrapping the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and reinstating OPS. On Monday, they staged a massive protest at Dharna Chowk.
Teacher MLC Pingili Sripal criticised the government for failing to act on CPS even after nearly two years in power. He expressed frustration that although CPS was discussed in JAC meetings and a ministerial committee was formed, not a single meeting had been held on the issue.
Teachers said they would not relent until OPS was restored, including for those recruited under earlier notifications such as the DSC 2003 batch. They warned that the agitation would intensify if the government failed to reinstate OPS.
