Hyderabad: After suffering a 0-1 defeat against Chennaiyin FC in their opening fixture in the Indian Super League, the Hyderabad Football Club bounced back in style stunning defending champions 3-1 in their second match.
Going into the clash against Jamshedpur FC on Thursday, Hyderabad coach Manolo Marquez felt that the team’s morale is high after their win over Mumbai. Speaking on the eve of Hyderabad’s clash, the 53-year-old Spaniard said Jamshedpur are tough opponents and they need to produce another good quality game to come out victorious.
“When you win a game against current champions, your morale will definitely be high. The defeat against Chennaiyin was disappointing as we were in control of the game for the better part. But we recovered well against Mumbai. The competition is such that you can win against the top team but can lose to the bottom-placed team. So there is no time to relax,” said Marquez.
“We showed that we can beat any team in the competition. The last game was a perfect game. Though we had more ball possession against Chennaiyin, we could not win. But Mumbai had more possession in the last game and we won the game. So making more of the chances in the game is crucial,” he added.
Speaking about Jamshedpur, who are also coming into this match with a 3-1 victory over Goa FC, he said, “It is always a tough team. They are now playing a different style of play. They have good players in all positions on the pitch. Jordan Murray, (Nerijus) Valskis are very good in the front and with (Greg) Steward, they have a balanced side. It is going to be tough for sure.”
He also stressed that having good domestic players became crucial after the new rule of having at least seven Indian players on the pitch all the time. “We have six foreigners and we are happy with them. They are crucial to team’s chances. But with the new rule, having good local players is crucial. We have a young side that is full of talent. We will see more Indian players in action.”
He also lauded Rohit Danu, who scored against Mumbai but said the youngster needs to continue to perform to reach top level. “These young guys need to take one step at a time. The crucial thing is not to perform but to keep performing constantly. His (Danu) mentality is very good. He is a very dedicated player. He wants to learn every day in the training session. Of course, he has to continue working. If he thinks one goal makes him the best player, it will not do any good,” he concluded.
