Hyderabad: A weekend temple visit turned tragic for a group of IT employees when their car allegedly overturned on the Outer Ring Road near Pedda Amberpet in Abdullapurmet on the city outskirts on Sunday night, claiming the life of a 25-year-old woman and leaving seven others injured.
The group of Infosys employees, including the victim R Sowmya Reddy, Nanda Kishore, Veerendra, Praneesh, Sagar, Arvind, Jhansi and Shruthi, were returning from the Saralamma Thanda Maisamma temple in Dandumailaram when their Toyota Innova Crysta, driven by Veerendra, lost control while travelling from Bongulur Gate towards Ghatkesar, when the incident occurred.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 8 pm, when the car entered the ORR at Exit 10, Bengaluru and proceeding towards Ghatkesar, the vehicle lost control near Balijaguda village.
“The SUV first hit a road median and overturned onto the opposite road towards Pedda Amberpet. The car skidded and overturned multiple times before coming to a halt,” said a police official.
All the occupants in the vehicle suffered multiple bleeding injuries and were shifted to a private hospital in Hayathnagar. Later, Sowmya Reddy and Nanda Kishore were shifted to another private hospital in Uppal, where Sowmya succumbed to injuries.
The health condition of others is said to be stable. The police suspect that overspeeding and loss of control over the steering wheel could have led to the accident. Based on the complaint from Sowmya Reddy’s fathe,r Venkateshwar Reddy, the Abdullapurmet police booked a case and are investigating.
