Hyderabad: You may have booked seats for your favourite movie. Now, Hyderabad’s techies are seeing a different kind of advance booking, with many tech firms bringing in the concept of booking a workstation in advance in case an employee decides to work from office.

With the hybrid model of working taking over the IT sector, many companies are looking at different mechanisms to accommodate employees safely whenever they plan to attend office. And the most popular among these is the ‘book your seat’ concept.”As soon as our company started opening up for physical attendance, they decided that they could not accommodate all employees at once. So to ensure physical distancing and also to have a count of how many employees are present in office on a given day, we decided to adopt the ‘book your workstation’ concept. This not only makes the office space a safer zone but also helps in having a workplace that is employee-friendly and in better utilization of space,” says G Naresh, facilities management head at an IT major here.

Through an internally developed software application, many companies are making it easier for employees to book their seats in advance to ensure physical distancing. This tool also helps keep a count of the employees attending office at any given point of time. “With the seat booking mechanism in place, many companies have been able to maintain physical distancing. If the company has fixed seats, then it is not a problem but in shared seats, the concept of seat booking is very helpful. The seat booking tool also helps employees and the company plan their schedule,” says Krishna Yedula, secretary, Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC). Through the booking software, employees can book a workstation either one day in advance for just a day or reserve the seat for a certain number of days as per their requirement. In case an employee wants to come to office just to get their laptop upgraded or install some software, then too this tool is extremely useful.
