Hyderabad: A technical malfunction in the cableway system at the Srisailam Dam disrupted a critical survey of the plunge pool being carried out by a team of scientists on Tuesday. The team, assigned to conduct a detailed assessment of the dam’s structural integrity, encountered delays due to the unexpected failure of the cableway.
Initially, the scientists successfully used the cableway to transport a boat from the reservoir’s rear to the front for the survey. However, when they attempted to shift essential survey materials, a technical fault brought the cableway operations to a halt.
Dam staff are currently working to resolve the issue, but progress has reportedly been slow. The disruption has been attributed to alleged negligence on the part of the dam authorities, further compounded by a shortage of personnel. The limited workforce is said to be facing logistical constraints, making manual transportation of survey materials to the site difficult.
The Srisailam Dam, a key multi-purpose project catering to the irrigation and power needs of the two Telugu states, has drawn attention in recent months due to concerns over its structural stability. The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) has recommended immediate repairs to mitigate potential risks.
