Hyderabad: Applying for e-passes from the Telangana State Police website is not a smooth experience for people. Technical glitches, according to users, are making it a difficult task to get an e-pass to travel in emergencies during the lockdown.

Some say that right from the first day of the lockdown, soon after the Telangana Police website policeportal.tspolice.gov.in was readied for the purpose, it was facing frequent technical issues. Several citizens planning journeys to other States, inter-district travel as well as those individuals travelling from one place to another in the tri-commissionerates i.e, Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda, and trying for an e-pass are facing inconvenience.

In one instance, one Tirumala Rao, who was trying to get the e-pass so that he could travel to his native place in Visakhapatnam for a medical emergency could not get the pass in time due to the technical issues.

According to a senior official from the Telangana Police IT Cell, many people were not prepared for the lockdown and when several were trying to get the passes at the same time, the server was getting jammed. As a result, the system was crashing quite frequently and the users were facing technical issues.

“We are getting several such complaints and queries online on various social media platforms and offline too. However, within a few minutes, we are resolving the issues with the help of our expert IT team,” the official said. It can be noted that on the first day of the lockdown, over 7,000 requests for the e-pass were received from the Hyderabad City Police limits alone. The number has gone up consistently with requests coming in from across the State.

IT experts said a majority of the issues were also related to incorrect details being entered by the user, ranging from mistakes in address, irregular size of the photographs which are being uploaded and so on.

“In most cases, the users themselves can rectify such issues like entering proper details and in appropriate format,” they said.
