Yadadri-Bhongir: What should have been a pleasure trip for a group of friends from Hyderabad ended in tragedy when one of them drowned in a village tank in the hilly terrains of Rachakonda in Sansthan Narayanapur mandal of Yadadri-Bhongir district on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Shaikh Soyab (18), a student of an Intermediate college in Hyderabad.
Seven friends, all 10th class batch-mates and residents of Chandanagar in Hyderabad, came to Rachakonda area for a trip. While playing in the water at a village tank located near Rachakonda thanda, Soyab drowned in the water. Efforts by his friends to save Soyab proved futile as none of them knew swimming.
Sansthan Narayanpur Sub-Inspector Sudhakar Rao said Soyab’s frients called up the emergency number and informed the police. On getting information from the control room, we rushed to the spot and fished out the body from the village tank, he said.
The body was shifted to the government hospital at Choutuppal for autopsy. A case has been filed and investigations taken up, he added.
