Hyderabad: The appointment of consultants for preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the Regional Ring Road’s northern part is gaining momentum with bids opened on Tuesday. As many as 20 consultants have filed their bids.

Though the bids were to be opened on May 25, the last date was extended by a week following poor response to the tender due to Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown.

Finalising a company for the work would take about two months as the bids would have to be evaluated both on technical and financial aspects, a senior official from the National Highways Authority of India told ‘Telangana Today’.

Officials in New Delhi would evaluate the bids and after zeroing in on a firm, an agreement would be signed and the contract would be awarded to prepare the DPR, the official said.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy had said the Central government was taking up the construction of the RRR at Rs 17,000 crore. “The State government has allocated over Rs 700 crore in the budget for the project,” he had said while addressing the media recently. Under phase-I, it will be constructed connecting Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Pragnapur, Jagdevpur, Bhongir and Choutuppal junction. This route will form the northern part of the RRR covering about 180 km.

Once the DPR for the first phase is completed, the focus would be on phase-II, the southern part of the RRR connecting Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Kandukur, Amangal, Chevella, Shankarpally and Sangareddy, covering a distance of nearly 160 km.

The State government has proposed the RRR to provide better access to farmers to sell their produce and ensure connectivity of different districts with the State capital.

Apart from these factors, the traffic on the National Highways connecting Bengaluru, Mumbai, Nagpur and Vijayawada will ease once the RRR is operational. The Telangana government will bear 50% of the land acquisition cost to execute the project.
