Hyderabad: For the academic year 2020-21, a total of 355 private junior colleges have so far been granted affiliations by Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education.

This year, the Board received 1,661 applications from private colleges seeking affiliation and of these, 355 were granted affiliations while as on Friday, 223 applications await approval from the Board. A total of 599 applications which were returned by the Board due to discrepancies, are with the colleges.

Some of the applications returned pertained to lack of fire no objection certificate from Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services department, structural soundness, and sanitation certificate among others. This apart, 354 college buildings have mixed occupancy (junior college + school or degree college, junior college + commercial shops or college + residential homes).

“These applications were returned to the colleges due to discrepancies and lack of proper documents. The applications will be considered when the colleges furnish required documents. We are planning to complete the affiliation process by end of this month,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the Board has sent a proposal to the State government seeking an approval for reduction of 30 per cent syllabus in the intermediate courses for the academic year 2020-21.

“An expert committee was constituted for reducing syllabus and recommendations of the committee were reviewed again. We have not touched any topic which is controversial. The proposal has been sent to the government for approval. We will notify the new syllabus for the academic year 2020-21 only,” official said.
