Shifting uprooted banyan tree to transplant in collectorate premises in Sircilla on Sunday.
Rajanna-Sircilla: A 70-year-old uprooted banyan tree, which was survived by an environmentalist, is transplanted in collectorate premises.
Thanks to environmentalist Bobbala Prakash for striving hard to survive the uprooted banyan tree by offering water and other protection measures. On Sunday, the tree was transplanted with the support of Rajya Sabha MP and Green India Challenge founder Joginapalli Santosh Kumar.
It may be recalled here that a 70-year-old banyan tree located in the agricultural fields of Burra Bhumaiah Goud and Burra Ramesh Goud in Suddala of Konaraopet mandal was uprooted due to heavy rains that hit the district three months ago.
Within a few days of uprooting, the tree had started withering due to a lack of water supply. Hailing from the same village, environmentalist Bobbala Prakash noticed the tree being withered and started efforts to protect the tree. Without a second thought, Prakash started supplying water to the tree by convincing neighboring farmer Bobbala Das, who owns an agricultural well.
Besides working as an artist in Telangana cultural council department, Sircilla, Prakash regularly supplied water to trees during the last two months. As a result, the uprooted tree became alive and started flourishing. Local MLA and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, MP Santosh Kumar and others had hailed Prakash’s efforts.
As water is being supplied regularly, the mud fixed to roots has gradually fallen subsequently the tree was unable to get adequate water. So, Prakash has decided to transplant the tree. Initially, Prakash planned to transplant the tree in the local government school but withdrew his decision due to lack of money since it was expensive to transplant such a big tree. Rajya Sabha MP, J Santosh Kumar came forward to extend support to transplant the tree.
On Sunday, the tree was shifted to the collectorate by chopping off small branches. Two huge cranes were deployed to lift the tree. A 40 feet length trolley was also engaged to transport the tree for a 14-kilometer distance from Suddala to the collectorate office.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Prakash said they had planned to transplant the tree on February 8 but in vain. The cranes deployed to shift the tree failed to lift it. So, they postponed the transplant. He thanked MP Santosh Kumar for coming forward to transplant the tree. Besides making all arrangements, MP engaged the representatives of Vata Foundation, a city-based organization, to shift the tree, he said. Besides planting trees, Prakash has a habit to drop seeds in hillocks with the help of a drone in the rainy season.
