Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Wednesday caught a Legal Metrology Inspector from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and a private person for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
According to the ACB, Inspector K Venkateswarlu allegedly demanded the bribe from a petrol bunk owner in return for having already issued a verification certificate and handing over the bunk’s daily sales register. The amount was allegedly collected on his behalf by Kasaram Ravinder, a private person working as a petrol pump technician, at LB Nagar in Hyderabad.
Of the total bribe amount, Rs 15,000 was allegedly intended for Venkateswarlu, while Ravinder was to retain Rs 5,000, the ACB said.
The officials recovered the tainted amount of Rs 20,000 from Ravinder at his instance. The ACB alleged that Venkateswarlu had acted improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage.
Both the inspector and the private person are being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand.
