Hyderabad: Cybercrimes in the State has been on the rise and as per experts, Telangana accounts for nearly 10 per cent of total cybercrimes reported across the country.
JV Raja Reddy, Deputy Director General (Administration), APLSA, Department of Telecom, Hyderabad said there has been a massive jump in the number of cases registered under cybercrime.
“Telangana contributed to over 10 per cent of cybercrimes reported across the country and almost 50 per cent of population is using internet and India is number two in online business after China,” said Reddy at the vigilance awareness week for financial year 2021-22 being celebrated by DoT, APLSA (comprising both TS and AP States).
The week-long celebration from October 25 to November 1 saw pamphlets on mobile related security awareness being released. G Gouri Sankar, Deputy Director General (Telecom Security) explained the importance of the awareness creation among the general public about mobile related security aspects as various financial frauds are on the rise now a days duping innocent public of their hard earned money.
The pamphlets enumerates most commonly observed frauds such as OTP Frauds, KYC Frauds, QR Code Frauds, Smartphone Smishing, Mobile Tower Frauds, Fake Call Centre Frauds, Sextortion Crimes, Loan/Gift/Job Frauds etc., along with precautionary measures, complaint reporting mechanism and important Do’s & Don’ts.
