Hyderabad: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday presented the ‘Best State Award’ to Telangana which was adjudged as the State with most dedicated outlook towards aviation and aerospace sector. This is the third time in a row that Telangana got this award. Praveen PA, Director of Aerospace and Defence, Government of Telangana received the award from Scindia at the ongoing civil aviation industry event Wings India 2022.
Telangana is seeing a great opportunity for investment and high value employment in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) segment. Telangana already has two MROs operated by GMR and Air India. The State is in active discussions with a few other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and operators. The State’s aerospace ecosystem offers the best infrastructure and skillbase for the MRO sector, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy said.
The State is also proposing to set up an aerospace university in collaboration with industry players.
There has been a substantial growth in the aerospace sector and Hyderabad has emerged as the most preferred aerospace manufacturing destination. Leading OEMs such as Sikorsky, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, GE, Safran and others have established multiple production lines in Hyderabad. Tata Group has a major presence in Hyderabad. Adani, and Kalyani groups are also expanding in Hyderabad.
Presence of many large and about 1,000 SME players in the State augur well for the growth of aerospace OEMs. Telangana has five dedicated aerospace parks and over 50 general engineering parks catering to the aerospace, precision and allied segments.
Telangana is the first State to come up with its own drone policy to develop a drone ecosystem in the State. The State Government is working with startups and industrial partners to pioneer drone usage in healthcare, agriculture, mining and law enforcement. The Government of Telangana in partnership with World Economic Forum has launched the medicine from sky project. Drones are being used for medicine and vaccine delivery.
