Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said the State government has set a target of cultivating oil palm in 20 lakh acres in Telangana, besides focusing on increasing agriculture exports from the State.

Speaking at a round table conference at FTCCI Bhavan here on Thursday, the Chief Secretary termed exporters as partners in development. He assured that the State government would resolve problems faced by exporters.

Representatives of various export units thanked the State government for permitting production even during the lockdown, saying it had benefitted the exporters a lot. Raising concerns over container shortage, exporters said it was affecting outbound shipments and as a result, large scale exports were getting hampered. They also raised the issue of GST refund in respect of capital goods and asked the government to take up the issue with the Central government.

The exporters appealed for a dedicated international courier cargo clearance facility at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, which would be helpful for exporters. They also wanted the government to notify a town for export excellence, set up another Inland Container Depot and a mega industrial park to boost exports from the State.

The Chief Secretary, in reply, asked the exporters to come up with suggestions for boosting exports from the State. He said the government would take up all the issues raised by them with officials concerned and resolve them.

At another function, Somesh Kumar wanted Secretariat employees to work as per Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision and contribute for the State’s development. The Telangana Secretariat Association felicitated the Chief Secretary for promoting 122 Secretariat Employees, at BRKR Bhavan today.

Addressing on the occasion, the Chief Secretary informed that government had taken up a drive to promote employees of all departments and also issued a GO reducing the service period from three years to two years, irrespective of panel year for considering promotions. He also reminded that Chief Minister had also offered 30 per cent PRC to the employees. The Chief Secretary also instructed the GAD to train employees in drafting, notes and computer skills.
