Hyderabad: The Education Department on Friday issued orders granting permission for appointing 1,382 District Selection Committee (DSC) 2008 candidates as Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) in the government and local body schools in the State. The services will be engaged purely on contractual basis with consolidated remuneration of Rs 31,040.
The issue dates back to 2008 when candidates failed to get appointment to the posts of SGT due to change in selection pattern.
As per the notification, the candidates should possess intermediate with DEd or degree with BEd qualifications. Subsequently, the then government issued an amendment, providing a 30 percent quota exclusively for DEd candidates and remaining SGTs vacancies for both DEd and BEd candidates on the basis of common merit secured in the recruitment exam.
The BEd candidates who were affected due to this change in selection pattern raised objections on their non-selection to the jobs and moved the High Court, seeking inclusion of their candidature for jobs. The court passed directions in favour of candidates last year.
As per NCTE Regulations-2014 and Supreme Court orders in 2023, the BEd candidates are not eligible for SGT positions. However, candidates have been considered for the jobs on humanitarian grounds.
